NZTFI Senior Tag Nationals

New Zealand’s Premier Senior Tag Football Event.

The Senior Tag Nationals is the flagship tournament for New Zealand Tag Football, showcasing the best provincial and regional teams from across the country. Since 2010, it has been officially contested under the NZTFI

banner — but its roots stretch back to 2000, when it began as the Auckland Kiwitag Regionals, later evolving into the Kiwitag Nationals, before becoming the Senior Tag Nationals we know today.

Two decades of tag excellence.

The tournament has grown significantly over the years. Originally contested in Open Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, 30s Men’s and 40s Men’s grades, it has expanded to include Under 18, Under 21, Open, Senior, and Masters divisions across men’s, women’s, and mixed competitions. Only twice in its history has the event

been staged outside Auckland — Taupō in 2008 and Wellington in 2018 — yet it continues to attract teams from every corner of Aotearoa. The tournament’s growth and popularity highlight its crucial role in developing tag football communities and elevating the sport across New Zealand.

Driving regional growth and player pathways.

As the premier senior event on the NZTFI calendar, the Senior Tag Nationals represents far more than a showcase of athletic excellence. It serves as a cornerstone for the sport’s development across New Zealand, fostering the growth of new regions, strengthening community engagement, and offering players a clear pathway to elite-level play. For many, it is a pivotal stepping stone in their journey toward representing New Zealand on the international stage.
